October 28 Aiiiiight, lovelies. It's been a while since my last Yak entry. I went to see Fantastic Mr Fox today (well, actually we went to see Tim Burton's 9, but the cinema f*cked up our tickets, so...). It was an unbelievably awesome film, even though some of it was COMPLETELY crazy. I thought the soundtrack was really clever, and I loved some of the characters. At first I couldn't stop laughing at the talking, anthropomorphic animals. But, then I got over it and appreciated the film for being awesome. We then had dinner at Que Pasa (what an epic name!) and I bought perfume (Guerlain Idylle. Totally worth the money. Goodbye, Student Loan!) Aaaaaanyways, I have a few little rants to share... (there's a surprise I hear you mutter). Well, shut up and read, okay? Some Recent Rants
- Cheryl Cole being number one in the charts. Now, I know we have a thing for non-music at the moment. I mean, Lady Gaga's existence proves this. But, seriously guys... just because she's nice to people on the X-Factor does not mean you need to buy her music. Girls Aloud are crap collectively, so why would she be good on her own?
- Everyone's reaction to Nick Griffin's appearance on Question Time. Stop going on about how it should've been done! He looked like a total arse. End of story.
- Illness. Everyone in my corridor is ill, and so am I. Why??? I have my second cold in, like, 3 weeks. Why, God, why?
- Money. This rant comes in two parts... a) why does money just evade me??? and, b) why do I have to worry about money? Why can't I go back to worrying about all the stupid shiz I used to worry about at school?
- Books copying the Twilight cover. Twilight is a crap book. Why would you make your possibly-really-good-books (although nothing by L.J Smith, eh??) look like crap? Why sully them with Twilight's reputation for being total nonsense?
- Studying. A-levels weren't hard, and yet I had no social life. Now, I have a social life when there's work to be done. Where's the justice in that?
- Getting up early. In general.
Here endeth the entry. Much love, people,
Nim xoxo
Listening to: AEIOU by Charlotte Sometimes Quote of the Yak Entry: We create the illusions we need to go on, and when they no longer dazzle or comfort, we tear them down, brick by glittering brick, until we are left with nothing but the bright light of honesty. The light is liberating. Necessary. Terrifying. We stand naked and emptied before it. And when it is too much for our eyes to take, we build a new illusion to shield us from its relentless truth." - The Sweet Far Thing
October 19 Basically, Wicked was AMAZING. I've been singing the songs pretty much since I saw it, and it's so awesome. London is great at night too. So, here are my usual bullet-points... Things I've Learned Recently...
- The shop on campus sells Reece's Pieces. OMGSQUEE.
- Wicked is an awesome musical, and I AM Elphaba.
- Halloween is going to be Made of Awesome this year.
- I'm going as Elphaba for Halloween... I just need to order the green make-up.
- Damages is an awesome show. Really.
- Re-watching True Blood is fun.
- Corridor parties are epic.
- Happiness isn't something that happens. It's something you do.
- I NEED to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Soon. Or else.
- Going Bovine is an amazing book. Well done, Libba Bray. Again.
That is all for today, lovelies. I'm off to gospel choir soon. :D Farewell, Nim xoxo Listening to: Just Like Heaven - The Watson Twins Quote of the Yak Entry: "I have friends on this lonely path, and your place is not something you find. It's something you have when you need it." - Rebel Angels. October 14 The title of this awesomer-than-awesome Yak entry comes from True Blood, and is said specifically by the incredibly epic Eric Northman. Seriously, googleimages this man. You will not be disappointed. Anyway, my lovelies, onto the Nim-only-woke-up-half-an-hour-ago easy to read sections... Awesome Things About Today
- I'm going to see Wicked!!!
- I'M GOING TO SEE WICKED!!!
- I'M GOING TO SEE WICKED!!!
As you can see, I'm more than a little bit excited to be going to see the most wonderful musical, Wicked. It's going to be a little weird, since I know all the words to all the songs, but still... I get to wear a dress and go into London, and it's going to be completely and utterly winsauce... if we don't miss the last train and die.
But, until then, my awesome people, I'm off to watch True Blood and scream when the Eric Northman scenes are on. Such is life... Wish me luck, Nim xoxo
Listening to: Bad Things by Jace Everett Quote of the day: "So if you care to find me, look to the Western sky. As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly. And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free. To those who'd ground me, take a message back from me. Tell them how I am defying gravity. I'm flying high, defying gravity. And soon I'll match them in renown..." - Elphaba, Wicked, "Defying Gravity"
October 11 I miss home today. And I'm looking forward to Christmas. It's not that I don't like it here, I just miss home, school, my family. And Christmas is going to be AWESOME this year. Hopefully. Anyway, some rather unusual simple-people-compatible sections... Things I Miss About Home/School
- My bed. It's next to a window, so I can open the window and look outside when I wake up.
- Having time to just read/watch TV without having to be somewhere.
- Simple homework. Seriously.
- Sitting in the library at school when it's raining, between the two radiators, reading the GDT.
- Worrying about stupid shit, instead of money, work, etc.
- Being able to sing. Everyone can hear everything here, so I can't sing.
- POTC nights with Klee. :D
- Interview With The Vampire nights with Klee.
- Walking home.
- Watching Sky News in the evening and BBC breakfast news in the morning.
- Cooking!
- The beach/sea. This place is so... in-land.
- The train ride from Walmer to Sandwich. Weirdly.
- Walking around Manwood's.
- English class & politics class. Not so much for Spanish... Gonzalez.
- Mocking stupid people.
- People calling me Nim. No one does that here, obviously.
Things that will be awesome about Christmas
- Shopping in London on the way back from here. I intend to have an awesome day doing this.
- Coming home on the train in the dark, hopefully with some Christmas music to listen to on my phone.
- Walking down Telegraph Road in the dark with my coat and scarf on.
- Seeing my house with the lights in the window.
- Getting warm once I get in.
- Christmas food shopping
- Wrapping presents, buying last-minute ones in Deal and Canterbury.
- Seeing people.
- Canterbury. It's always awesome at Christmas, and I can buy those sugary peanut things that those street vendors sell.
- Christmas Eve; making sausage rolls and mince pies, watching A Christmas Carol The Musical and listening to Christmas music.
- Presents. Getting them, giving them, just in general.
- Christmas dinner.
- DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. Last one EVER with David Tennant *cry* :(
- Boxing Day. For all the opportunities it may present. And wearing an awesome dress.
So, that's the end of this entry. Nim out, bitches. Love ya, Nim xoxo Listening to: The Dark I Know Well, Spring Awakening Soundtrack Quote of the day: "There's a part I can't tell about the dark I know well."
October 06 I'ma get straight down to it - the nice, easy, lectures-make-my-brain-crappy sections... How I Live Now: The Random Facts
- I think I may have just said to my friend "don't fear the hat".
- I have drunk two double chocolate mochas today. UN-godly, but loads of sugar to keep me alive.
- This building is so haunted. The girl opposite me turned her radiator off, left the room to go make some tea and locked the door. When she got back, the radiator was on and the dial thingy had been broken off. What. The. Flipping. Fuck?
- My course is really interesting and all that, but I got Going Bovine yesterday, so work is taking a backseat until I'm done.
- Don't look now... but Jack Sparrow is next to me. Well, his likeness is. On the wall. Sigh.
- It's a curious thing; I used to be able to get up at 6:15 for school, but now I struggle to get up at 9 for my classes.
- I HAVE WEDNESDAYS OFF, BITCHES.
- Due to my lack of sleep, I now randomly fall asleep while reading Going Bovine, then wake up later, mysteriously at the other end of the bed with my feet jammed into the radiator, my laptop somehow on and playing Paramore at me and my friend knocking on the door so we can go to dinner. Fucked up.
- I'm going to Thorpe Park tomorrow, since it's my day off and I have the half-price shiz.
- Crap. I need to find the half-price shiz in my tip of a room.
- Halls inspections are next week. Crap. I need to do some sodding cleaning.
- I'm performing in the gospel choir next Thursday!
- I'm going to see Wicked in London next Wednesday!
- I'm going to see the London Community Gospel Choir in London on Friday!
- Shit. Next week is going to be epic busy. Sorry, work, maybe later, ok?
- I'ma need to stop spending money. And soon.
- I also need more ibuprofen. Urgh.
- Money doesn't seem to like me. I guess that's why it never stays with me for long.
- I have POTC nights planned already. I love my corridor people!
- This entry is over because I'm going to watch True Blood, find the newly-named Half-Price Shiz and look up bus times to Ye Olde Thorpe Park.
Love and awesomesauce, Nim xoxo Listening to: Looking Up by Paramore Quote of the day: "Honestly, can you believe we cross the world while it's asleep?"
September 29 Aiiiiight... Freshers' Week is over and I'm now attempting to be a proper student. Ha! I'll let you know how that goes. 5 Amusing/Embarrassing/Terrifying Things About Today
- I went to my lecture this morning with mint-sugar lip scrub quite literally all over my face. D: Distressed face...
- My hair is wavy, but only at the top. WTF???
- I have a Thai crayfish salad for lunch.
- My dad is coming to visit me. Urgh. *sighhh*
- My lecturer compared Socrates to both Homer Simpson AND Ozzy Osbourne.
That really is all I have to say. Listening to: Eet by Regina Spektor Quote of the day: "It was so easy, and the words so sweet..." Loveness, Nim xoxo
September 23 So it finally happened - I left home and have gone to live at Hogwarts. As I write this, I'm praying for a fire alarm-free night. But, 'ere goes... the nice, simple I-bet-you're-hungover-from-Freshers sections... Awesome Things About Living In Halls
- Spinning chairs.
- Being down the hall from your friends, instead of half a town/towns away
- Late-night tea and coco pops.
- GOING VEGETARIAN! :D
- Putting random Post-its on people's doors when you're drunk/bored
- Having a bar literally 3 floors below me :)
- I live in a sodding Victorian castle... what could be more awesome???
- Meeting epic people I would never normally get to talk to.
- Sitting out in the quad w/ rum & coke.
- Being hobos on the stairs!!!
EPIC FAIL Things About Living In Halls- FIRE ALARMS. So far, one at 1:15am and one at 7:30am. First time, I had no shoes. Second time, I could barely see because it woke me up from a proper deep sleep.
- Fucking stairs. So, I live on the 4th floor of Hogwarts, and that's a lot of stairs, people. A LOT of stairs. It's 8 flights. We take the lift up.
- No. Sleep. Ever.
- Missing my family/cat/school. :( Spoke to Sid on the phone today... he meowed.
- Having to go down the hall to the bathroom, where the showers don't have enough pressure and the water is not always hot.
- Forgetting stuff so you have to go back to your room from the bathroom. Important stuff... like clothes.
- THE FUCKING CLOCK TOWER. I hate chiming now. I really hate it. It's right outside my window, so I wake up at 7 minutes past each hour... because it's slow. Thankfully, I'm never asleep before midnight, so I never wake up for the 12 chimes.
- Getting lost. This building/campus is pretty big and confusing. I'm permanently lost... ("Where aaaaam I???" LOL)
- Loud people outside early in the morning. Most people get up earlier than me, but they don't have to yell about it.
All in all, I'm having an epic time here, and even the bad parts are mostly amusing. I'ma go now... since I have to get up at 8:30 tomorrow. UN-godly... Adios, lovelies... Nim xoxo
